About
I’m Lisa E. Lee, the director of content at DNA Direct, a health advocate, and a veteran of consumer health and medical publishing. As a strong believer in “knowledege is power,” I have focused my career on helping people understand health and medicine so that they can improve their quality of life. Before joining DNA Direct, I had gone back to school to become a genetic counselor when I reconnected with Ryan Phelan, DNA Direct’s founder and CEO.
Ryan and I worked together at one of her earlier ventures: Direct Medical Knowledge. There, we focused on empowering people with personalized, in-depth information about chronic health issues, treatments, and prevention.
I have also worked at WebMD, as Director of Content Partnerships & Special Projects, where I partnered with premier medical publishers, universities, nursing organizations, and nonprofits to develop online features and programs. Prior to the web, I acquired and developed award-winning health and self-help books at Hunter House Publishers. It is a known secret that I ghostwrite health and sexuality books.
I have my Bachelors in English from Pomona College, a wonderful liberal arts college, and have studied at University of Cambridge and University of California, Berkeley. I am also a certified doula who assists women and couples during pregnancy, childbirth, and post-natal recovery.
